To elaborate just a bit. Many years ago, the best movie production of a Christmas carol was done starring George C. Scott. A few years back, Disney did a new version of a Christmas Carol that in my opinion using just one word describes it correctly, STUNK.

The Polar Express movie released in 2004 starring Tom Hanks and is off the charts good. It would be sure very hard to top this one, particularly if it was something like the new version of a Christmas Carol. Let's all be happy with what we got.

I would love to see it redone with a real train and real people, of course it would have been better if it was done that way first. At this point it would probably be a dud when compared to the original we are used to. The Jim Carey Grinch comes to mind.

It would cost a ton of money I'm sure, but if Pere Marquette 1225 could be used along with some really well done CGI for things like the frozen lake crossing.

If done on a par with films like Jurassic Park" when it comes to the CGI it "could" be awesome.

I'm sure, as Rich says," ain't gonna happen".

The movie was made with Actors wearing Motion Capture suits. If the data is still available, they can reprocess the information to make the appearance of the characters more life-like with the new computer processing power and programs.

The Movie Production team needs to revise the character graphics for the next release.

I agree with Andrew.  It's been ten years. CGI technology has improved dramatically since the original was produced.  Redo it with modern CGI tech.  Get a new, experienced producer and director, e.g. John Lassiter.  Keep the story line, clean up the creepy Santa and deliver a CGI classic.  Remakes are a part of Hollywood history and SOME of them actually improve on the original.  Just a thought.

I heard they are planning on making a new movie, where a bunch of train forum guys are woke up from bed, by a train driven to the North Pole by Rich Melvin and Allan Miller, and with Ed Boyle as the conductor.

Somewhere along the way, they begin making stops at as many OGR forum sponsor train stores as they can, and never make it to the North Pole, choosing instead to load up the train with as much stuff as they can buy.

Now that sounds like a movie every train enthusiast would flock to the theater to see!

Maybe with the boy as an old man now who still hears the bell, but his kids are grown brats who have disowned him,he's widowed with nothing left and his last wish is to ride the PE one more time. A familiar rumble shakes his nursing home room on christmas eve that rattles the bell off his night stand. He moves slower but shuffles outside and stares in awe at the sleek passenger cars being pulled now not by the steam engine he fell in love with, but a set of Alco P/A's in the classic ABA set up. As he boards the train, he no longer is an old man but returns to the boy who decided to take that journey 70 some years ago. Noticing the conductor and crew have not aged a day and still marveling over the new train, he sees the girl and the boy he stopped the train for onboard looking just as he remembered them and making new friends and adventures on the way. They arrive at the north pole to watch the first gift of christmas go to a young man  who strangely reminds him of himself at that age. Santa sees him and pulls him and the other two aside and thanks him for believing and ringing the bell all these years and how it warmed his heart to know people still kept the real meaning of Christmas in their hearts year round. He tells the old man that he has one special trip left that he must now take. He turns with excitment as he hears the whistle and the chugging of that Burk as she pulls in on a parallel track. The boys eyes fill with tears as santa tells him that is last christmas wish is fullfilled and that he is going home to be with his beloved wife. He boards the train he rode on all those years ago as the conductor yells all aboard. With a mighty blast of the whistle, elves dancing and chearing, the classic PE pulls out of the town square and rolls off into a tunnel of white light as santa lifts off to deliver another Christmas.

just something to continue and finish the story maybe?

oh btw as for remakes of Christmas Carroll, My favorite is the one with Patrick Stewart, then Allister Simm, then George C. Scott.

(If my spelling is way off, my mind was running faster than I could type this out on the screen)

I like the FT's, just Alco's are such a classy loco on passenger service and would look nice in the PE scheme, but yes to keep with what Lionel offered, I would have to use the FT. An A-B-B-A would be very impressive. The 0-8-0 could be seen in the background pulling freight cars out to a main line to be picked up for routing to designated resupply stops.

When ever I have enough funds to get the new streamline set, I also wanted to get another engine, find and paint a matching B unit plus add extra cars to have a nice full train. When I first saw that this set was coming out thats when I got the idea to eventually do an Alco set and run the FT's for a nice mixed freight.

You've been drinking the hot cocoa, haven't you?

Seriously, quit with all this talk...before you know it, they will want to remake a Christmas Story, and imagine the issues they will have trying to round up all of the Bumpus' Hounds!

Odd how times change people memories

The characters images do scare the heck out of a lot of folks!, the Tom Hanks image frightens me still. They did tweak the plot some to stretch the movie out.

Passenger train collector, I will not argue your point on Disney's Christmas Carol not holding a candle to the George C Scott version, however the music in Disney's version is absolutely SUPERB:

George C Scott is amazing. I love the scene below at the 1hr 35 min 30 sec mark, especially when he yells "MR CRATCHETTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!"
