well today my christmas present to myself arrived but was damaged in shipment. the engine is a 6-11301 lionel prr 2-10-4. looks like the two screws that hold the pilot on came out so the only thing holding the pilot on is the front truck, also the bearings in the front truck are in pieces (pretty much like the pictures of bearings i have seen on the new lionel berkshires). i found one of the screws to the pilot in the box the other is gone or inside the engine somewheres. looks like to reattachthe pilot  the boiler would need to come off to put the screws back in. which this isnt a 736 berkshire so i dont know if its a job i want to try myself. so my questions are anyone know a place that can fix this for me? are parts even available for this engine to fix it? any help would be appreciated

If you sent that to me, I could have her up in running in no time. Yes, I feel that confident I could do the job. Most of these repairs require a steady hand and a high degree of patience mixed with a little mechanical experience. Though I am not an official repair station as such, I can do various repairs. I love working on locomotives and helping others with their issues.

That being said, I also recommend that if something is broken in shipment that the party receiving said item must contact both the shipper and the shipping company to determine any liability. These locomotives we buy/purchase are not cheap, but when they arrive broken, we sometimes feel as though they are cheaply made. Well, perhaps they are, but in reality, if people just took the time to pack things correctly and very carefully, this would eliminate the need for repairs right out of the box.

Most repairs, whether modern or old would not be required if people just stopped and thought about what it is they are shipping to others.

Yes, there are a litany of things that can and will go wrong when shipping these rather expensive items and I do feel your pain.........
