It is with a heavy heart I announce fellow O scaler Ben Brown has passed away suddenly. Ben was active in O scale for over 50yrs and lived much of that time in Holliston MA with wife Mary and their children (recently he was a resident of SC and is survived by Mary and their children and grand children). Ben was a master modeler and his layout was featured in O Scale Trains and Model Railroader. He also wrote many articles over the years and was always quick to share his vast knowledge. I don't remember how I first met Ben, but he was a great friend and was instrumental in my transition to O scale. He was patient and really helped me to get a clear vision of how to plan a layout. He got me over my fear of electronics and showed me so many different modeling techniques..... I could not list them all. He was such a great mentor and friend to so many people. He worked tirelessly on projects for other railroaders and this was how he lived his life as well. Ben and Mary were always so welcoming and my family enjoyed more than one delicious meal at their home. If I can find some pics of his layout I will post them. His obit can be seen here http://www.robinsonfuneralhome....cgi?user_id=1631379  and his funeral service can be seen Saturday online at http://www.firstbaptistclemson.com

Ben thanks for being such a faithful friend, you will be missed.

My condolences to his family & friends.

Don,

I am saddened to hear this news. I got to know Ben as I pursuing my research on DLW milk cars. Ben's willingness to share his vast knowledge on the subject became the foundation of our friendship. After his move he allowed me to obtain his inventory of that car. They already had meaning to me as his finely crafted pieces. Now they are a fond reminder of my short time knowing him.
