Cab 1 flexible antenna

You can get rubber flex antennas with sma connectors...pay attention to the male/female of the threads and the center pin though. If you do use a bnc, you can get an adapter sma to bnc but again they come in different male/female configurations. I think the one on the CABs is what they call a reverse sma. Look around.

Are these the 10 inch 27mhz that I am looking for???

The CAB-1 does not have a RF connector of any sort. The easiest retrofit is a BNC connector fitted to the case, with a 27Mhz CB walkie-talkie antenna replacing the multi section original.

Hi Rob • I went to the web page you show, what is the process to install this antenna on a Lionel Cab 1. Have you done this to your Lionel Cab 1? If so please show photos.

Here are the pics - I used one of these jacks from my parts bin and an antenna from an unused CB. There was nothing precision about my job - I just enlarged the antenna hole to fit the BNC jack, & connected the antenna lead to the center conductor.

I have one done identical to what Rob has, same deal.  I bought the antenna on eBay for $8, and I had the BNC jack.  It's a pretty simple installation.

So which wire, the black or red, goes to the BNC connector???

I don't know which color it is, but there is only one antenna wire to relocate from the bottom of the old antenna to the center terminal of the BNC jack.

While it would be nice to have a counterpoise for maximum range, it would have to be about 102" long at 1/4 wave.

I connected the DC ground to the barrel of the BNC jack.  Not sure it helped, but it didn't hurt.

Well I ordered 5 of the female BNC connectors from Amazon, cost $3.  And two antennas from Texas,  $22.  I am going to do two conversions...
