Hi all,

 

I have a question I'm just asking out of curiosity - not a crisis, hurray!

 

I am in my first week as a happy Cab/Base-1L owner. Along with a Legacy Powermaster it all works great right out of the box. Most of my engines are conventional with a couple of MTH PS2 units. I have one mainline with four through sidings.

 

I have two TMCC engines: the 18042 B&A Hudson from 1995 and the NYC PA from '97. I know that I can assign them engine IDs, but just to keep things simple and uniform, I'd prefer to have them behave conventionally. Is this possible? Maybe just a matter of snipping one wire to the antenna, so the TMCC board can't find a signal? Or is it more complicated than that and I'll end up with two handsome dead engines?

Mark, I think that disabling the antenna works for "conventional" TMCC but not with Legacy - doing so would also break the connection between the Powermaster and Base-1L.

 

John, I believe the antenna on the steamer is the handrail? So a thin wire from the handrail to anything metal would do it? Sounds simple enough. I appreciate the help.

OP here. No apologies needed! As John says, if we all knew everything already, why have a forum?

 

I did have a TMCC/TPC setup previously. The old Cab-1 croaked and I decided to upgrade. The Base-1L/Legacy PM is MUCH more responsive to the handheld. It's like replacing a 1995 cell phone with a new one. But yes, the Legacy PM requires the command base in order to function at all. I've been busy with other things and haven't yet tried John's suggestion for disabling engine antennae. Will advise...
