Hmmmm . . . transformer failure already??

Not strange at all, the triacs that control the power are somewhat high failure items, especially if you have a few shorts that stresses them.  There was another thread on the same failure here recently.

Hardly a big $$ item anyway. Seems just another stumble along a path that's already been rocky enough for me.

The parts are cheap enough, a couple bucks at Digikey.  It will be the two that are bolted to the aluminum plate when you open it up.

OK, they're soldered to the plate, those are the two parts and the likely failures.  You might check that TVS at the top of the split plate as well.

That is the TVS diode, if it shorted the transform is a short, not constant 18V.  Might be worth replacing it since the FETs shorted.   G

John That is not a good one.  You need the 51V version in the transformer.  MTH uses 51V when used across the VAR FETs.  G
