Hello Guys,

I bought a couple PRR merchandise service boxcars from Jim's train shop in Homer city several years ago.  They were made for him by Weaver.  Since Weaver and Jims train shop are both gone, I was hoping perhaps one or more of you forum readers could help me find the rest of the cars.  As I stated above they were PRR merchandise service boxcars, the numbers were 2805X.  I have two that say return to the westinghouse plant in Derry, Pa, one states to return to Westmoreland Glass and one states to return to Jeanette glass.  I do not know if there were others.  Is anyone familiar with this run of cars made for Jim?

Thanks,

Jake

Jake, I have two numbers from Jim's run, 28050 & 20857. My notes say they are in the original Merchandise Service paint scheme, the one with a aluminum band. I also have four cars with a Weaver Part Number U-3089. The Road Numbers are, 28047, 28048, 28049 and 28051. They also have the aluminum band paint scheme.

I know some were made with the solid white band but I no longer have them so I don't know their Part or Road numbers.

I hope this helps.

Jake,

When those box cars were made, I believe we had (100) of each made. Weaver, wanted a order of (300) cars. Therefore, we did a (100) stating when empty return to the Westinghouse Plant in Derry, Pa., (100) stating when empty return to the Jeannette Glass Company in Jeannette, PA and (100) stating when empty return to the Westmoreland Glass Company in Grapeville, PA. We sold out of those cars very quickly.
