Ok folks, here is a question I need help.  I bought a great looking UP #2023 ( silver) at York.  The seller told me it only buzzed and didn't run.  I got a decent price on it and thought I would take it apart and see what I can do.  Well, it seems the problem stems from where the worn drive from the motor turns the gear on the axel.  The axel gear slips off the ring that holds it tight, thus binding the worm drive.  Any fix for this other than trying to find another powered front truck?  I don't have a wheel puller etc, just normal tools.  Does the gear have to be in a certain location on the axel like the exact middle. The scored ring that the gear slides off seems to be to one side.  Any help I'd appreciate, or if anyone has a front powered truck that they want to sell.  Thanks in advance.

The wheels will need to be pulled off the axle, and the worm gear replaced. The axle may need to be replaced also.

Your description and picture seem to indicate that the worm gear is a 2 piece unit. It looks like a previous repair was done, and instead of replacing the gear, it was bored out and a reducing bushing pressed in place. Now the gear has come loose of the bushing.

The replacement gears are 1 piece, and get pressed directly on a swage on the axle to keep it in place.

Here is the service manual page showing the gear, axle and wheel setup.
