Does anyone have any pictures, suggestions for detailing this kit to make it look less plasticy (made that word up!)  This is the gray building with black roof and trim out of the box.  Just looking to see what some others have done with this kit.  It is a nice structure but I'm having touble visualizing what I want it to look like.  All I see is that gray and black plastic.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas.  I look forward to hearing from you and looking at all the great posts and pictures in 2014.

Gpop,

Is this the engine house you are talking about?

The above pictures show the engine house on my layout where it lives most of the year. I also take it to the Pink Palace exhibit in October as part of our Casey Jones High Railer modular layout.

The pictures below show the engine house on the CJHR modular layout.

Thanks guys, this is the kit.  You both did a fantastic job and love the weathering.  I guess step one in either case is to change that gray color to dull it up.  Really like both versions.  I think I was hesitant to spray paint it to change the base, but you guys sure made it look great.  Thanks for the help.

I wish Lionel would go back to making these kinds of kits.  Love building them.

Mery Christmas everyone.

I must have an older version because it looks the same but already came in red, not gray.  I added some stairs by the sliding door on the side,  same gutters and a rain barrel on a corner and a work bench on the inside wall.

Alex I like what you did with it.  What did you use for lights and the back door?

Good morning guys,

Richard great work on your engine shed

gpap you're right I wish they would bring these old kits back, they were awesome

coach Joe the lights are from Plastruct, as for the back door it's a solid door that doesn't open. I cut it out of the structure and put a brass hinge on it,and made it a working door.

Jon, that sounds great, I would like to see this method. how about a picture!!!

Thanks,

Alex
