Thanks for the replies.

I saw what I thought was a B unit (number 200) at York but it was part of a set and the owner did not want to break the set up.

I took a look at the pair for auction but decided against it. The owners state that if they don't specifically mention the powered unit works then they won't guarantee it nor will they accept returns.

While it’s possible that your powered unit is numbered 204, if both units were purchased brand new together and it hasn’t been modified then it should have the same number (208) as your pictured dummy unit.  But they also made that diesel in the same paint scheme with both units numbered 204 in 1957.  The 208 was made in 1958 and ’59 and the only difference is that the 208 dummy did not have a headlight like the 204 dummy.  There was no #206 post-war Lionel diesel.
