Looking for reviews of the Lionel 24134 Gantry Crane with clamshell bucket vs. American flyer Coal loader

Anyone have any of these? Are they a good reliable accessories for a family with busy kids? We have a lot of the postwar accessories, and they go and go. We have a coal area with aquarium gravel (black). Was wondering about the Lionel having can motors. Also, do you think the bucket is strong enough to pick up aquarium gravel on the 24134?

How about the old American Flyer Coal loaders? Are they a better idea?
