The building is nicely done as others have said.

The major problem with mine is that the lights did not work at all. Period.

Mark,

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I should be picking mine up shortly, and at least now I know what would need to be done, and how, if the lights on mine do not work.

Thanks!

To remove the base you need to remove six screws that go through the base and up into the walls of the building.

3 of the screw heads are visible and 3 are hidden under rubber pads.

You will need to remove the pads or poke holes in them to access the screw heads.

In addition it is advisable to remove the truck (2 screws---mine also was warped down in the middle from excessive tightening of the screws) and disconnect the mini-plug that supplies power to the truck's headlights.

One other thing and this is the hardest. The thin wall holding up the roof that the truck is parked under is securely g-l-u-e-d to the base.

You will need to repeatedly score the joint where the wall meets the base with a sharp knife from both sides of the wall before prying it loose.

Rushing this aspect of removal will result in a broken wall.

Finally the base came loose

Followed your directions and came apart with no problem. Give me a chance to instal light in stall, and back doors. Have some HO lights that will look good. Lost a lot of weight removing the base/ Will remount on foam board.

If you want to have access to the interior of the building (so as to say add more LED lighting) there is a way to do it without compromising the structure.

A rectangular hole can be cut to a 4" by 7" size under the building proper while still retaining the battery box.

The two pictures shown here show the top of the base--the side the building sits on (the green grass side)  and the bottom of the base showing the battery box.

Use the dimensions shown drawn on the base and you should have no problems.

A dremel tool with a saw blade should cut through the base easily.

Make sure to use a blade that is just a large enough diameter to just cut through the base. A large diameter blade or one set too deep could nick wire on the inside.

Bottom side shows battery box

Top side shows grass

In addition to my earlier instructions for base removal it should be noted that the back wall of the building is also glued to the base like the skinny front wall.

Scoring the base with a knife and gently inserting one and then another screwdriver under the wall will eventually get the glue to break loose.

Take it slow and careful and it'll come loose.

The access hole cut as shown would probably be sufficient to make any repairs or light additions one would want.

Back wall was barely tacked, did have to cut and cut between base and sidewall untill I was completely through so not to snap or break. It actually looks good without the base and much lighter.

Odd, whenever I pushed the button, the TV channels would change, and phone ring. Thinking, "haunted".

As an update, my building arrived in excellent condition, and lighting works, having plugged it in to my power pack that I bought at Menards a while back.
I like the building!

I'll hopefully pick it up tomorrow.

Troy Towery,

I believe Menard's will be producing additional very detailed buildings. I don't know what they will be but you can be sure they will be very nice. The two structures that you would like to see built, would be great additions to anybody's layout. I hope you get your wish. You take care and enjoy your Sunday evening.

Just received my Menard's Feed and Seed building and overall I am very impressed and pleased.  There are a few concerns I would like to bring to your attention and it is about the interior packaging and security of the building during shipping.  Received my building and the two pipes on the roof had been broken off along with the lean two over the truck also had been broken off from building.  I plan just to glue the parts back on if possible.  Perhaps better inner packing in and around structure would help secure it in shipment or during the manufacturing process, parts like the pipes can just be snapped in or applied by the purchaser.  Otherwise this is a great looking weathered structure and at a great price.  Hoping for many more of these types of structures from Menards.

This is the first of these buildings I have found interesting, due to my grain elevator

fetish, and I will both widen and add height, maybe two or three times, to the elevator.

I will sell off the truck, seing if the lighting can be applied to a 1930's Matchbox International  or  Brooklin Dodge pickup, or some such.  Isn't "Rabbit Hash" somewhere in southern Ky.?  That store's lighting and detail is nice.

Troy,

Thank you for your comments. I will pass along the feedback about the inner packaging in hopes that in this will not happen in the future. I am glad to hear that you were able to fix it and that you enjoy it! You did an excellent job adding this to your layout and it really feels like it belongs there!

Hit the button too soon.  Someone last year had the same problem.  In his building, the lap board siding was right side up, to it was just the sign that was applied upside down.  Most likely China and the assemblers don't read English and they are pushing the models through so fast that no one is checking or at least no one is pulling off the defects.

That has to be a computer glitch as NONE of the stores carry the train stuff until Christmas time.

Mark,

You are spot on. We've been having technical difficulties. Most of our buildings are back online and everything else should be up and running very soon! Thanks for your patience!
