MTH 45-1028 ITAD or Lionel 153IR Controller? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and have two relatively simple questions: What Infrared Track Activation Device (ITAD) do you use (if any) on your layout? Second, how do the MTH and Lionel products mentioned above compare (i.e. quality, ease of use)?

I've used both of those and the Z-Stuff relay (DZ-1070). All three worked worked well. They all have pots for sensitivity and length of time the n/o stays on after the train passes. I've had issues occasionally with some of all three manufacturers while others have been working for years with no problem. I think it's the luck of the draw with the run it was manufactured in.

Dennis from Z-Stuff backs his product pretty well.

I use relays and the outside insulated rail method. Cheaper and more reliable and much more versatile. Here is a link as to how to use relays.

I tried the 153IR and the MTH ITAD, the Lionel product works much better IMO.

I agree with John. The Lionel 153IR is far superior to the MTH Version!!
