Think I found what I wanted. Anxiously holding my breath to get Polar RR I-12 caboose 6-27656 bought through Amazon yesterday. Supposed to be delivered on Saturday.

Listed as like new and for the catalog retail price, the caboose is coming from Nickles Online through Amazon. Never heard of them so looked them up and they are basically a consignment shop that doesn't even have a collectors or toys section on their website. Mostly guitars, electronics, sports equipment, etc. Actually listed this as Polar Express caboose with the 6-27656 number and accurate photo. If this turns out to be correct, I'll be very happy.

I bought the Polar RR Legacy GP-7 in December and have been looking for, calling around, hunting for at Amherst and York show/meets any Polar RR caboose since. I've seen the I-12 on ebay a couple of different times with a buy it now price of $120 - $140. Retail when it came out was $85 so I wasn't going to pay that amount although I was tempted having not found it anywhere. Earlier this week Mario's had the smaller 6-36674 online and I ordered it having not seen that one around in 5 months time either. Turns out he was out of inventory which was a real bummer, but it made me do yet one more google search on both numbers for the hundredth time and the Amazon listing pops up!

When I started with the trains last fall, someone on the forum advised half the fun was the hunt. While I can't say it is always fun, when you find something you want that isn't readily available, it's pretty darn, well...fun!
