  Thank you sir very much for the knowledge, looks like when the Christmas layout comes down, I need to ship it to NC, bummer.  IMO this kind of stuff is another reason our hobby is fading.

There are two momentary push buttons under the red button. I have to push kind of hard to get the white screen and then when I let up, the Cab2 shuts off. It sounds like a pushbutton is stuck on. Don't know how that would cycle the powering on and off by removing the batteries.

Do not hesitate to send it back. Lionel has be 100% in the three or four time I have sent one back.

FWIW, shipping a 990 should be WAY easier than packing and shipping, say.....large scale steam for instance.  I really worry about shipping locos but I would ship any TMCC or Legacy Electronics without thinking twice.

   Thank you sir for the additional information, when I return to Churchill, I am going to try to push down fairly hard on the red button and see what happens, maybe like you say a button is sticking and not working exactly as it should.

If you do end up sending it back make sure you tell them you are a veteran!  Shipping should be free or warranty repairs.  I have yet to see a Legacy system NOT repaired under warranty.

Yes they will issue you an RA#.

I called about mine not turning on. Nice lady had me try a few things that did not work. Issued me a RA that came across while we were on the phone. 

I sent mine off 12 days ago and it is on its way back now. should arrive tomorrow. If it does,it will be a two week from time leaving to get it back. I do not think that is bad.

Hopefully you will have as good luck as I did.

Hi DAVE,

  When you call for the RA, ask them if they want everything back or just the base and the Cab2.  Reason is when Legacy first came out I send everything back and when it returned to me it didn't have the cables and the wire nut to hook up wire to the transformer.  I had to call up Lionel and had to pay for another set of cables and wire nut.  Just thought I'd let you know.

They usually say the base has to be sent along with the cab2, but not any of the other accessories like the cable, etc. The base requires an upgrade to the charging ckt.

The latest generation ones shouldn't

We certainly hope not!

But without some indication of generation, how would one know? Probably if it came with 1.52 version of software modules is the answer to that. Maybe that has to be communicated to Megan when you call.

  This is the newest Legacy 990 with 1.52, I just received it before Christmas, I was hoping that I waited long enough for Lionel to work out all the problems, unfortunately not so.

Yes, I thought that too. Mine had a messed up display where the top window of stuff populated the right hand column display. With that one Charles Ro swapped out my Cab2 and it only took a couple days. Good dealer.

   Can't remember just where I purchased mine, I am 400 miles away from the layout right now, so I will check when I get home on Saturday evening.  Maybe CR will swap mine out also.  Good idea, thanks.

I'm pretty sure that CR will only swap out stuff you purchased through them, so if you bought it elsewhere, I'd contact those folks...

Mine came back Today. I sent everything in, cables, batteries, modules. Everything came back. Works just like it is suppose to. 2 week turn around. If you have to send it in, it will be back very quickly.
