Does any one remember this layout which was called the Pocono Northern at a Hobby Shop owned by Sergio Depinto in Hawley PA? His layout was featured in the Oct 1991 issue of the other magazine. It was a huge Toy Rail Tubular Lionel Layout.

It was a very nicely done railroad. Would love to hear from anyone who may have visited the layout or may have additional photos of the layout. I have included one.

Hi Mark

Bob Thomas ( Angela's husband ) and I visited the layout years ago

We were invited to come see the layout ( I think Sergio may have been one of Angela's customers ) and were given a behind the scenes tour --- He was extremely gracious and the layout was fantastic

Bob and I were recently talking about this layout and he may have some info / photos / etc

You can get in touch with Bob through Angela's website --- angelatrottathomas.com

Mark,

Sergio now lives in Tucson.  He is a member of the Gadsden-Pacific Operating Toy Train Museum and regularly has several tables, at the museum train meets.  I pretty much grew up in Hawley, but moved west long before Sergio had his hobby shop and layout in Hawley.   One trip back to visit my family, my father told me of the layout and said we had to go and see it.  We drove into town and the shop was closed that day, so unfortunately I never got to see it.

The next time I see Sergio, I will tell him of your request for pictures.

Mark:

My wife and I made a trip to visit Mr. Depinto's layout and store right around the time the magazine article was published. As you indicated, it was very nicely done and I recall him being a very gracious host. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures during our visit. I have very fond memories of our trip to Hawley that day. Thanks for rekindling them with your thread.

I knew Sergio when he lived close by in Manville, NJ.  This would have probably been in the early 80's   He used to sell trains at the small local flea market in Neshanic Station and we would often talk and share stories.  Sergio then  relocated to Pennsylvania and built the huge layout in Hawley, PA.  in the Poconos. Sergio advertised it at a tourist attraction and there were brochures about it spread all over. The train store and layout lasted only a few years until it was closed and Sergio again relocated. Glad to hear that he is still enjoying the hobby.
