Reflective Strips for Railcar Models  - Check them out!

Federal regulations enacted in 2005 require the installation of reflective striping on freight railcars and locomotives operating in the U.S.  Smokebox Graphics brings these reflective, self-adhesive scale versions to the model railroad market.  Simple to install, these reflective strips will add an additional level of realism to your fleet, reflecting camera flash, daylight, and ambient layout lighting.  These are not just yellow paint or decal film approximating the reflective strips of the prototype.

These reflective strips are best applied to fleets representing 2005-present, and can be applied over existing flat finishes, graffiti, or weathering. Please note that as a function of their reflective nature, the strips are approximately 0.005" thick. Clear coating the strips and applying overcoats of weathering will reduce the visibility of this thickness.

Common Practice for applying FRA-224 strips

At least one 4′ x 36′ strip or two 4′ x 18′ strips (one above the other) shall be applied as close to each end of the rail car as practical. In between these two vertical end strips, reflective tape shall be applied a minimum of one 4′ x 18′ strip every 12 feet.

Mike,

Very nice work and thanks for flagging this product. I just ordered a couple of sets to try out. I will be curious to see how they compare to Pactra trim film. That has a slightly glossy finish, and I've used it for sill stripes.

Rich,

Checking to see how you like the stripes compared to the trim film tape?
