Sound File Loader Broke My Engine

I have a PS2 BNSF AC4400CW, 20-2629-1. I'm using the Version 2.3.4 loader. At first I was using Version 4.1 on my DCS system. I tried loading a file for a Dreyfuss Hudson onto the engine (just for fun). There was enough room for the file. It got up to 9% and stalled, so I restarted it and it got only up to 1% before it would freeze. The engine didn't work. Only ran conventionally making a high pitched screeching noise. So I let it sit for a week. I then updated the software on both the TIU and the remote to 4.3, and loaded the Dreyfuss Hudson file successfully after the second try (stalled at 81% so I restarted and loaded it successfully). I got bored of that so I went to put the original file back on. Except it went right back to the same issue as before. Stalled at 1% and repeatedly every time I've tried since then. When it first comes on it starts at 00% and stops at 0%. Every once in a while it tries telling me that my engine is 5V. And I now have the screeching noise again. I'm seriously stumped here. Is this common? It's the first time I've ever done this before. What might I be doing wrong?

I have one 3-volt loco that loader 2.3.4 keeps insisting is a 5-volt loco.  Solution is to keep trying.  No idea what the cause is, and I shan't be drawn into a discussion of whether it's a bug in the software---or a fish or a bird, etc.

 

Be sure to power down the TIU for a few seconds after each unsuccessful attempt.

Power is going into the fixed voltage input and connected to my layout track.

That could be your problem.

 

Connect the ZW to Fixed #1 In. Then, connect only a test track (single piece of track just big enough to hold the engine) to Fixed #1 Out.

 

That may improve things.

 

Also, be aware that transferring sound files requires a very strong DCS signal strength.

Hi Trevor,

 

Run the throttle on your ZW to maximum.  That eliminates some choppiness in the power output that can cause fits.

 

As Barry suggested, you really should set up a test track to do your sound file transfers.  Just a short pice of track connected directly to the TIU output (and nothing else plugged into any of the TIU outputs) will give you the best results.

 

 

 

FYI, everyone, I too have been seeing issues with the current loader mis-identifying 3 volt boards as 5 volt.  I haven't had time to diagnose the source (loader software vs. TIU Revision vs. TIU firmware version, etc.) but I was able to get the boards to be properly recognized by swapping TIU's to a Rev. I3A with V4.20 firmware and programming on a fixed channel.
