Finished detailing a NYC Pacemaker car and did a bit more detailing on my Rico station. In both cases the details end up costing as much as the structure itself. Are you finding your cost ratio about the same? lets see what you have this week.

Thanks for a nice start to the showcase.
I am completing a cone roof storage tank. The tank is 10 inches in diameter and 9 inches tall. The bottom shell course is painted black and is prototypical of many storage tanks constructed in the 1950's and 60's.

Here is a structure on my layout I have started. It is intended to be a large factory, and cold storage structure. The mail lines run under it. There will be an icing platform on the yard in front of it.

Yes, I've found that details easily double the price of the model. In the case of high-scaled plastic kits with all the bells, whistles and photo etched railings the cost can triple. Alan, how did you lay out and construct that spiral staircase running up the tank's sides?

I cut individual stair treads and glue them on the tank shell when it is still a flat sheet. I made a stair stringer template that I use to trace the stair tread locations on the flat sheet. After I get the bottom and roof on the tank, I add the stair posts using angle or rectangular strips for the vertical posts. I cut a thin piece of abs sheet for the handrail and glue it to the posts.

Rich, I think you would get a great response if you offered your building above as a modular option with solid walls, window walls, office entry door walls and dock door walls.
