I'm going to the TCA Cranberry show tomorrow.  It is about twice as far down to Castle Shannon, and I don't have time to do both.  Maybe I will see you Jim!

Penny, I saw the Cleveland one was today.  I have thought of going sometime, but haven't had a day free to do it.  The weather was too good today, and I mowed and raked leaves.  It's a 2-plus hour trip for me.  Someday, I'll get there.

Mark,   I'm interested in going.   I sent you an e mail.   Rick.

There are usually 2 groups that put on shows at the UAW hall here in Parma several times a year.  The Cuyahoga Valley S Gauge Association and the TCA.  Both do a great job and there's always a lot of nice vendors.  The next one is Nov 26 and is also being hosted by the TCA.  Check out http://www.cleveshows.com/ for info.  The S gaugers had a layout there yesterday and this one always cracks me up!  It has several tracks and on one corner they have a small airport with 5 grade crossings on the runway!

I usually only have cash for one show a year and yesterday was probably it for me.  But I did OK.  Spent 83 bucks plus the $6 adm. and found several postwar cars I was looking for.  I needed a 6462 gon ($8) and a 3464 operating ATSF box ($20) to go with the 2035 I bought over the summer.  Coupled with the 3472 milk car, 6465 Sunoco tank I already had, I've got a reasonable facsimile of set 1481WS from 1951.  I don't know if it's right or not, but I bought a red 6462 gon from 1950 instead of the black.  I also bought a 6457 ($19) to bring up the rear instead of the 6357 the 1481WS had.  But what's life without an upgrade or two?

I also needed a UCS and I found some very well cleaned, serviced and rewired pieces from one seller for $15 each.  (I only needed one so he still had about 10 of them for upcoming shows.)  I've been wanting a 6472 refrigerated box to stand in for the 3472 and I found a reasonable boxed car for $14.  On the low end I needed a bubble tube for my MTH repro oil pumping station and I bought an X2454 Baby Ruth box from 1946-47 for $4.  Not bad for a coil coupler car!

The high point for me though wasn't only what I bought, but all the Standard Gauge I got to see and touch live and in person that I can't afford!  Including my favorite loco of all time, the gray 385E.    Paired with the Terra Cotta Ives transition cars no less!    It shared a table with a full Blue Comet 400E set.)    Across the room I saw what I think was the first #51 steamer I've ever seen in person on the same table with the giant #42 electric and a brass #6.  Several 390's and 384's too!

It's a great show to me!

Tonight I went through the collection of Standard gauge cars i bought today and separated the freights and passengers then took the top value freights and started cleaning them. they were probably in an old attic from the black that came off. Just used wet paper towels then light oil that I lube with(shaver oil) on a piece of paper towel.  Does a decent job without harming the paint or numbers.  They will require several cleanings but that is OK. The ones cleaned were two 218 dump cars, a 214 box car and a 211 flat car.  They  are heavy, especially the dump cars. Oiled the wheels etc. Then as icing on the cake, I worked on a Standard gauge Super motor, complete, and  pretty clean but it wouldn't run. Went over the motor, commutator,  E unit(not original but well done), lubed everything thing and away she went !! Nice wheels too-all for $50. So now I have a spare. I was thinking of taking a passenger car and making it an interurban.

I like the Parma Ohio TCA shows. Usually I find something but not this time. But meeting friends there makes up for buying nothing. The next day I went to the Medina Ohio show but this one seemed to me to have more toys then trains this time. Although I did get some ballast from Brummy's as I m stocking piling for working on the basement layout this winter.  I am keeping my fingers crossed for the O gauge two rail show and finding something there. And that Cleveland train shows site works well for me..................Paul

So sorry I missed you Rick!  I will certainly look forward to connecting next time!

TCA Show in Cranberry was great for buyers as prices seemed to be very competitive. "Jeff" who let me have his table after he left, scored a Lionel pre war #165 triple action magnetic crane for ......$5.00....!!! Yep...5 bucks....and lots of free dust... I found the Atlas Shawmut switcher I've been looking for for years. I have #234...just found #233. Saw some really great prices for NS Heritage diesels....including Kurt Kissner's fleet.
