Is the term "lashup" ever correct?
I heard the term used when Steve Lee and John Rimmasch were discussing UP steam engines.
Knowing both of them I serious doubt THAT! Unless of course they were messing with you, or someone else.

Well, you must understand that John was/is NOT a professional railroader. Not how Steve did NOT respond to THAT "term". John is, however, an EXCELLENT steam mechanic and certified high pressure vessel welder!John is also the founder and owner of Wasatch (sp) Railroad Contractors, one of the premier boiler repair/construction companies in the U.S..
You don't have to watch that video for very long to see why people like and respect Steve Lee so much.

A "lash-up" is what they do on the North Borneo Railway to accommodate mis-matched couplers ...
On a side note, I know that the 611 is going to spend a considerable amount of time at the NC Transportation Museum this summer. While the 611 was there last summer they had a hands on the throttle event. I hope they decide to do a repeat this summer as I missed it last year.
Well I'm hoping that anyone who wanted throttle time with Pere Marquette 1225 or Flagg coal 75 was able to get their tickets because to my knowledge both events are sold out!

Tickets are expensive and the kids being older actually enjoy being track side. So we watched the trains come in and out, then headed to the bowling alley for some afternoon fun. I hope Owosso will host another Trainfest soon. Their last one was a hit with the car show and Air show . The family enjoyed the carnival too.
FYI the 1225 Hands on the Throttle opportunity is again being offered by SRI August 18. Spots still open.
Could somebody please report on the Class J 611 throttle time experience at Spencer? How far could you actually engineer the locomotive? How long did you get at the throttle? Did you get an opportunity to fire the 611? And what was the price?

That is cheaper than the $611 usually charged to run that N&W 4-8-4 in NC. Would prefer to run the 1225 if I had the chance.
The Valley Railroad also offers throttle time.

Its funny how threads pop back up now and again... The DRIVE rhymed with FIVE - was a play on words so people would take notice and may go see the 1225... never thought it would strike a nerve... LOL....
