I have a Loco Sounds board from a diesel;
MTH Loco Sounds board - USED - Was in RK LV Alco PA (30-2196-0). $20 shipped CONUS.
lt can be used for running the engine without the sound by not connecting the speaker wires (a 4-6-0 with diesel sounds would be kind of wierd!)
The Protosounds boards (AKA PS-1) are all the same. The chip gives it it's identity. You will also need a speaker and volume pot.
I have a slight proublem believing that. because I have 2 proto 1 steam boars ,one with C&NW the other a premier challenger. The challenger didnt want to funtion wright.. so Id tried the C&NW and that worked great.. but I'd wanted to try the challenger chip.. no go.. it wouldnt work at all in that board. makes a bizzing sound.Even with the QSI 2 boards with there chips did the samething..now if you know somthing Im doing wrong I would apreciate if you can tell me..
MTH Protosounds (AKA PS-1) is what we are talking about. Do not try to mix QSI chips (or boards) and Protosounds chips. What are the MTH product numbers that your boards came out of and I can fine tune things for you?
Did you ever consider that the Challenger chip might just be junk and the boards it came out of might be OK?
I enjoyed reading your post.
found out the board had a small chunk of soild on the QSI chip on the side on the MTH board..I did post I want to buy a proto 1 top or both boards on this forum..Im not trying to mix QSI sound chip to MTH sound chips. Ive got proubley 3 QSI 2 system and there not working wright.. seams I've got better luck on the MTH proto1.. I got the C&NW in my S2 turbine and it works great.. Did have alittle trouble when it did the 3 clink of death.. Got so mad Id keeped moving the transformer throtle lever back and forth several times then the train started to work again..Marty can you still buy proto sound 1 sound chips??board number..white number 1993 QSI QSI C3...gold numbers is SFL 40V0..top pic is the C&NW board.. bottom is the challenger premier board..
It varies. The first thing the processor does is retrieve data from memory and the chip. The software or firmware can vary and when it replaces memory from the chip it may make the top board non operational.
Since the software QSI made overtime evolved along with product some are not compatible. MTH required certain capability and excluded others that QSI was working on and installing in their systems. All soon over run by Lionel TMCC and then MTH DCS.
Josey, That C3 top board may be your issue. That probably only work with the very early 1993/4 Chip like the basic F-3.
