100 Car Train on Boston Metro High Railers Layout

Great video! I love seeing the trains snake through in the background. I counted 99 cars and the caboose.

Remarkable! Did one engine pull that entire train? Did you have to push start it?

Pretty amazing one locomotive for that train!  I had 50 cars running and thought I had accomplished something!

that's very impressive as that lionel DD35 has only 4 of its eight axles powered and plastic body so it doesn't weigh as much as the same size die-cast steamer!!!!!!!! that's very good in my book!!!!!!!!!

Very impressive.  I couldn't help but think that if each car cost $50, that was a $5000 consist.

And a meatball sandwich to go!  That's every railroaders dream.  Very cool.

2.Only 1 loco was used, my DD350. I believe that any Lionel with rubber tires and Odyssey speed control could do it since we ran 90 car trains with a GP38 and an SD70.

Starting very slowly and smoothly is important

3.The real barrier to running long trains is avoiding "stringing or chording" on uphill corners. This is where the high forces on the forwardmost cars cause them to tip inwards on the uphill curves and derail. To avoid this we put the heavier boxcars first with hoppers and tankers following. 

4.no push start was necessary. We ran the train for ~45 minutes and were stopped when a coupler on the 4th boxcar opened on the uphill run.

- but they used two Yellowstones to pull it.  Using just one diesel is impressive.
