Re: Cab2 Momentum Settings

Hi all,

I have a Lionel Pere Marquette Legacy Berkshire 1225 released in 2008 I believe. It was the first Berkshire that also had a Polar express Tender. I had a mishap and the locomotive went flying off the layout onto the concrete floor. Miraculously, it seemed everything was working. Then I noticed that around turns it had a bad wobble. Brought it into my local hobby shop and they could not fix it. So, a few years ago, I found a used one and thought I was back in business.

By that time, I went back to my HO stuff and didn't really put it through the paces. Now that I have, it looks like everything it perfect, except the momentum control from the Cab2. It seems like no matter what I set it to, 1-8, it takes off with absolutely no momentum and it's very fast. Any other locomotive set to M (or 4), starts with some momentum and builds up to ever how far I have the throttle set. Train brake it set to the same place. This one does not. In fact, I can barely turn the throttle and it will show 2 or 3 scale miles per hour and it is hauling. Any other locomotive I have with the throttle in the same position shows around 17 or 18 SMH, same momentum setting.

I have read the Cab2 manual cover to cover several times and can't find anything that mentions acceleration other then the momentum setting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe there is a way to reset the locomotive controller board?

This has nothing to do with momentum settings and everything to do with the Odyssey speed control.

It sounds like this locomotive has either a problem with the DCDS board or flywheel sensor. It could also be the wiring between the motor sensor board and DCDS, a broken wire there will cause the runaway.

For early Legacy models, I lean to the wiring or DCDS, that's where I usually find runaway issues for those models. For TMCC, I check the flywheel magnet ring first as that's the top suspect as they frequently come loose and cause this issue.

Thanks John. It’s fast off the go, but not runaway. As I recall with older TMCC locos, there was a switch to turn off Odyssey, I will check this one, but I thought Odyssey usually controlled speed, up and down inclines.

It appears it does have an Odyssey switch, but there's no reason you should have to turn it off to get good performance. Maybe it's already off and that's why you are seeing the issues?
