I received the TIU and WIU in the mail. Purchased the Premium App, have a Lionel 180 watt connected to tiu with the banana plug style the goes into the molex into the Input fixed 1.

then track connected to output fixed Dcs 1.

Lionel 990 is plugged in power and have the vga or whatever it’s called connected to the vga in TIU.

Don’t  know what kind of connector to use or where to put the U from 990 to the TIU?

I think that’s why it won’t work. I can connect Mth engine no problem.

Robert,

That's one problem. Due to Lionel's design of the Legacy Command Base's serial port, when connecting the TIU directly to the Legacy base, you can only operate Legacy engines as 9f they were TMCC engines. The Legacy base will to accept Legacy commands via its own serial port.

In order to have Legacy engines defined and operating as Legacy engines using the DCS App, you must have the TIU's serial port connected to a Lionel SER2 module. How too do this is addressed, in detail, in The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition.

If by the "U", you mean The "one wire" that connects to a screw lug on the Legacy Base, although there are a couple places that the wire can be connected, the simplest connection is directly to an outside rail. Just be sure not to connect it to a TIU channel input.

Everything that you need to know about DCS WiFi is all in MTH’s “The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Ok retrying I had the vga goofed like u said.

Moved the legacy U attachment  with a black cord to the outside rail.

Does the legacy need to be turned on or the remote removed from the base?

Dont know where that port your talking about would be on the TIU to enable legacy.

Just tried again with the sw7 with no luck.

Robert,

Found this

https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...acy%20Addendum03.pdf

That's an older  version of the diagrams for use with the 1st edition of the WiFi book. It was updated and included in the 2nd edition. That file now serves as a "teaser" for the 2nd edition.

So I need the ser2 to get the legacy part on the dcs.

Yes, that's correct. You'll also need a cable, as described in the book.

I'm going to buy your book for sure.

It's about time!

What are the benefits of having the LCs Wi-Fi vs not and just the ser2? Do you lose any features or will they be exactly the same?

I’m going to test my Acela with the Dcs App tomorrow. I know it’s just Tmcc but I’m not sure if I really trust the app controlling it without the preciseness of the legacy remote .

Does the Legacy version of the app have a more precise speed control gauge like the Mth engine I have has on the App?

The only benefit the LCS module itself really provides is to allow you to use Lionel's iCab and LCS apps.

The LCS App, while free, does far less for train operation than the Cab-2 remote, although it does allow you to use Lionel's wireless modules to construct a visual track plan on an iPad and throw switches using the iPad.

The iCab app, for a $50 price tag, pretty much allows you to do most everything the Cab-2 remote allows. However, you can do about 98% (approximately) of the iCab's train control from the DCS App if the TIU is connected to the SER2.

Does the Legacy version of the app have a more precise speed control gauge like the Mth engine I have has on the App?

The iCab app has, I believe, a speed control mechanism that's similar to that of the Cab-2 remote.

Regardless, I'm hardly an expert regarding Lionel's LC'S app's capabilities. Possibly someone more knowledgeable than I of the two Lionel apps can add to, or correct, my statements.

The Acela will run quite well with the 180 brick.  I used it for my layout when I had the Acela.  The Acela was just TMCC (I think) and make sure that you have a 21 inch or longer straight section between all of your O72 curve track because the tilt mechanism will mess you up if you do not have straight sections at least the length of a coach.

Robert,

Both TMCC and Legacy work just fine using the DCS App. I run both on my layout using the app.

You haven't provided any real indication of what you do with the app, how it responds or how you have your DC S and Legacy connected. The 3 pictures don't provide much in the way of any real information. Until you can provide an accurate description of these three pieces of information, it will be very difficult for anyone to assist you.
