Hi, all:

Due to the fact that my wife was not feeling well (she's diabetic) I couldn't make the Allentown Spring Thaw meet or breakfast. I am sort of compensating by going to York for the first time tomorrow morning (renewed my slumbering TCA membership for that reason).

Any advice for a train collector/operator (I collect and operate both O and S Gauge) going to York for the first time? Anything to look out for? Any pitfalls? What about parking at the meet?

Thanks for any nuggets of wisdom you can provide.

Regards,

http://yorktrainshow.com/ is the website.  Look at the maps, you have an entire fairgrounds to park on.  The orange and purple halls are dealer halls, the rest are member halls.  You will see everything that toy trains have to offer and a lot of things you never knew existed.  Go to the member halls first because they close earlier, then do the dealer halls.  Once you go there on a Sat. you will want to be there Thursday thru Saturday in October.

If you want to try and get everywhere, bring your running shoes. Get there early because a lot of the vendors will slowly start packing up by 10 or 11, so you'll have to keep moving and not waste time. A lot of the very rare stuff is already gone by Saturday, but there are still a lot of trains for sale and usually Saturday is IMO, the best time for bargains. Parking on the fairgrounds shouldn't be an issue since the crowds will be lighter compared to Thursday and Friday. The best way to see most of the meet on Saturday is the go to the member halls first since they close up earlier, then go to the dealer halls. I would forget about going to the black hall where the modular layout is if you're just looking to buy trains. Since this will be your first York, I think Saturday will give you a nice taste of what's to offer and you'll probably decide to go on a Thursday or Friday come October.
