Hi all,

I had a question or two, about the 4644 New Haven outline boxcabs. I recently picked out a nice 'deep red' variant w/ black frame and wanted to know what sets this engine (the deep red/maroon one) was found in, and are there variants with different plates fitted? For example: A deep red/black frame 4644 w/o number plates or number on frame, but with AF plates at both ends on each side.

Thanks,

Alex

There are limited sets that a Sunset Red/black frame loco was in. There are samples w/ 2 AF plates, 1 AF plate/ 1 4644 plate, and I've actually seen two 4644 plates. It doesn't seem to be a value differentiator.  I am trying to gather enough data to see if the plates are a help dating locos, I don't have that yet.

1928 Trail Blazer (4017 gon and 4011 Caboose)

1929 Trail Blazer and separate sale

1930 The New Eagle (litho red 4151 and 4152 (rare 4150 if you are really lucky)) and separate sale

1931 locos had a french grey frame.

Generally the 1927 trains do not have overlays, and have sand cans on the top of the frame,  and brass air tanks on the frame sides. 1928 and later (except for the nationwide and a couple others) have flag holders and overlays... the frame was either black or grey at that point.  The lesser trains in the line used black frames....generally.

Look... its Flyer and there are more exceptions than rules!
