I need some help please on a set I received today which had a couple of known faults on the engine prior to purchase. It is all OK now but the set is missing the instruction book/manual. I can see one in the parts list for $10 but I was hoping to find an online manual to read up on it instead but can’t find one, does Lionel have an online area for this sets manual?

Hi Ray,

it is the latest Bluetooth set, date on box is 26819. Carl sent a reply which seems to have gone now which had a link I believe to the old first gen sets which I have as well.

I was able to cut back the link Carl posted to a point which picked up a set of menus for manuals, parts etc. It still didn’t like the latest set box number when I entered it in the search box so I searched for Flyer Berkshire Bluetooth and I got lucky as it listed a few engines non PE. Looking at one of these gives all the info which I will guess is exactly the same for the PE engine. I just need to set it up now to run from my iPad and/or my iPhone and try something new.

I might have to wait before I can set it up to run in a few weeks time as I took a fall yesterday and ended up looking at the sky. Went to our walk in centre and had an x-ray and found out I have a fracture of the wrist and the thumb. Sitting here with my right hand all strapped up and locked solid and typing with one finger.

Thanks for the offer btw.

Management had a spare 5 minutes today and she managed to put the Fastrack together for me so I could run the PE set.

For anyone outside the US it is a bonus that the transformer in the set has an operating input range from 100-240 volts, so no need to get a step down transformer. I initially ran it with the hand controller and it worked fine as expected. I then set the Bluetooth up on my iPad and operated without any problems. I liked the ability to easily change some of the functions of the engine. The best one is the ability to set the max speed, really good if it is going to a young person to try and protect it from excessive speed. I also know that it probably won’t take long for an inquisitive youngster to find the feature and change it. Perhaps it would be nice for a parental lock it so that it can’t be easily changed.

I also noticed at idle the engine streams smoke freely from the stack which my first gen PE set doesn’t do. As soon as it pulls away it stops and then smokes in sync with the engine. It also smokes a lot more than my first gen set as well which is a bonus.

The set box states that the minimum age for the set is 14 years of age which is the same as the first gen set, I’m at a loss to understand why these sets are not suitable for under 14 year olds, any ideas? I think it would be good set for 5-6 year olds under supervision. This set will be going to our grandson in a few years time when he will be around 4-5 years old, hope he enjoys it as much as I am now.

Overall I like the updated PE set and I also like the ability to operate it using  Bluetooth.
