The boxcars of Bungling Brothers Circus' train.
Well, these started out as boxcars then got a second life.
Picked up a PW Lionel A.T.&S.F. operating box car 1954-55 HS/white Type 1 SB door, needs repair to plunger going to my shop soon for maintenance.
Well, since we’re on the subject of MOW repurposed boxcars, here are two sets on my roster. The colorful Long Island set was a special run from the good folks at NLOE.
In 1931 and 32 , Ives had offered a good looking line of 9 1/2 " lithographed freight cars. In 1933, Lionel discontinued the Ives line but due to the depths of the Depression maintained the lithographed cars (which could be sold for much lower prices than Lionel's normal enameled cars) in order to offer low priced sets. They removed "Ives" from the black oval and substituted "Lionel" and gave the cars a new number 1719. While they were handsome and more realistic than the prior lithographed cars (about 6-7" long) Lionel did not really care for lithography (especially Mr. Cowen) and so they were never shown in the catalogue. So here is the 1933-1940 large lithographed boxcar # 1719, note the car remained in the line until 1942 but after 1940 had box couplers.

I took this photograph and don't think I ever posted it. Jeff @ScoutingDad gives me a friendly teasing because I like boxcars in boxcar red (brown as it looks to me) He says I need more colorful cars. 
I saw lots of blue RF&P cars during my time working in Virginia in the 1970s and 80s. I also added some color to my black Western Maryland engine roster with this CSX MP15.
BTW, check the silver and red Western Maryland boxcar on the head end of the passenger train in the background. I'll get a photo of that for next week.

My offering for today's 027 boxcar "session:"
I've posted this photo before but it's my oldest 027 car and I want to present my oldest to newest. It's a "first year" MPC from 1970. They appear to have spared just about EVERY expense to put these out. I got it for $23 NIB from Forum sponsor Graham's Trains and had to rework both couplers to get them to work on my uncoupler track.
Here's the box, front & back:
No inserts of any kind; just big enough to hold the car with the couplers turned under the car.
Car info was just rubber stamped, obviously hastily, on one end flap:
We've "recovered" quite a bit since then...

To be fair my comment to Mark B was for his photo of a string of brown box cars and that he needs to get more color on his cars.
Case(s) in point Illinois Central had the wisdom to address the "box car brown" by adding orange and a yellow racing stripe in addition to its green and yellow company logo.
Pretty typical of Milwaukee Road paint schemes - no "box car brown" here especially for it's Hiawatha Brand.
Northern Pacific did a good gob of paint jobs - a nice forest green and a "box car brown" with lettering and logos so big I do not notice the "bcb".
My newest arrival from an auction site. This is an all door car used for forest products to keep the contents out of the weather. The 2 middle doors open all the way to each side. Hmm - an appropriate green for the contents inside ?

The number is so minuscule that Greenberg didn’t pick up on it. If you look up 26234; GB just lists it as NYC Boxcar. Other listings have the reused road numbers in “ “.

Although it looks like a boxcar, it is actually a covered tank car. You did not read that wrong . . . this is a tank car. But, since it looks like a boxcar, here it is! I used to see these being loaded or unloaded -- I'm not sure which -- at Linde Air Products, located west of Fontana, California, on the SP Sunset Route.

I had posted a AIRCO one back in January. Maybe someone at a higher pay grade can explain the purpose of putting a tank in a box.

Extra protection? Corrosion control? Secret delivery of gas?

This is what I could find. The XT classification designates a boxcar that encloses one or more tanks. These specialized boxcars were used for transporting liquids or gases, and they played a crucial role in various industries. Equipped with one or more insulated tanks and with or without pumps or compressors. Not equipped with means of refrigeration. The Class XT boxcar fell out of favor with the complexity of loading/unloading and the small tank capacity and has been replaced with the cryogenic tank car.
