As many of you know, I build the Lee Lines SP GS4 Daylight engines in Standard Gauge. The original engine used an MEW driver that is smaller than the standard AF wide gauge driver (or Ives or LIonel for that matter). I got a large box of new in package drivers when I bought the package. Now down to the last 4 sets. This is one of the very few parts that is critical to making more of these in the future (I can cast, or make most of the other parts). If demand is there, I may have wheels cast in steel and machined in order to make a representative engine.

I was told a while ago that this driver (1-7/8" across the wheel (not the flange)) was used on an early AF steam loco (4694 perhaps).

Hennings does not have the tooling for this wheel unfortunately, and looking for sources of new old stock from MEW.

Can any of you AF wide gauge folks confirm that there was an AF wide gauge steamer with this smaller wheel?

Thanks

Jim

This is correct. Never had one, but the Ives Casting used for the 4694 had the smaller wheels. No other steam had these wheels that I am aware of Jim. It was the same dimeter at the tread that the electrics used.

Thanks Rob - I guess I should have asked you first. I am a novice in the Ives 1134/AF steamer string. Like up, but can never get the AF stuff straight.
