Has anyone else ever come across one of these Carroll Park and Western Railroad Cabooses? I was sent these pictures sometime ago and was told it is an American Flyer Caboose that Carroll Stahl had several made (don't know how many) and he had used them on his layout. I remember seeing one on an auction site years ago but have never come across one in person.

I have never seen one but that does not really mean anything. From the photo it is a repainted 630 Gilbert American flyer caboose. Based on the black weights on the link couplers the original donor was made between 1949 and 1952. I think it is a 630 rather than a 638 because in the picture the left hand truck seems to have plastic wheels and the right hand truck looks like it has a metal wheel indicating the chassis was illuminated.

Thanks for the info on the type of caboose it is Tom.  I'm not very familiar with American Flyer models and your info will be a welcome addition to accompany the picture in the book about the Carroll Park and Western Railroad I am working on. Your estimate of 1949-1952 sounds about right. Around this time Carroll had a large S-gauge layout at his home and he was also a convention chairman for the MNRA Mid Eastern region and hosted several events. Also around this time he started planning his live steam railroad attraction. From what I've been told he made several of these cabooses. I'd love to come across another one someday.
