On my way home yesterday I happened across this engine. I haven't seen this paint scheme before around here. (Niagara Falls, NY)
Nice looking unit. I wouldn't mind seeing one of the manufactures produce it.

Al, did you see what was painted on the side of the engine? I cannot make it out. I missed it as it went by my office at Canalside (next to Exchange Street station).
If you Google "Amtrak locomotive #42" you will get the answer.
That is the "Honoring Our Veterans" engine that Amtrak painted a year or two ago. A classy engine. I've been lucky enough to see it in person a few times.

Amtrak does, from time to time, special paint schemes to commemorate events or even historical type stuff. I think this locomotive looks awesome. Great picture. I haven't seen this particular locomotive before, but I have seen other special paint schemes that seem to all but disappear from thin air.
Anyway, I like the P42 in any color. Just an awesome looking locomotive with all sorts of paint scheme possibilities.

I am interested in the viewliner turned into an observation car of some sort
They had this at Spencer,NC for the train show. I had never seen it before - it is impressive.

I happened to catch it unexpectedly backing into Washington Union Station a few years ago with Amtrak's "Museum train", complete with F40 diesel loco.
Amtrak has also painted a F40PH "cab car" used in California commuter/regional service in this Veterans livery as well as a new electric loco for use on the Northeast Corridor and the electric line between Philly and Pittsburg (? or was it Harrisburg?)

One of the classier paint schemes, I must say. Too many commemorative paint schemes go too far and become hideous. Bi Centennial GG1 comes to mind !
I like it much better than the NS Honor Vets engine. Ugh.
