I wasn't kidding, but I see it's removed now.
I did not see a photo but deleted a small icon... Thanks.

"Any New Haven Fans" has been an interesting and educational thread that has been running for more than two years and 800 posts. As a New Haven fan, historian and model railroader, I would like to see it continue. As such, here is my next photograph, taken on my layout this evening.

Now that photo is gorgeous, and would look great on the cover of OGR Magazine, IMO. Arnold
Mel, before this thread disappears, how about a video of your I-5 in action. Perhaps it will stimulate MTH to release one rather than a 49er wanna be as it did last year.
Visited Mel before my surgery. Beautiful trains and layouts. Buildings are impeccable.

Beginnings of a model of the Coal tower over at Cedar Hill. I found some old scale drawings online. Any recommendations on how to cover the cylinder? I was thinking plaster cloth.

I would use a hard but flexible material. Spray it with a fine sand finish.
Suggestions:
1) 1/32-inch thick basswood (3-inch or 6-inch width) with grain vertical. Moisten one side, allow to curl, then glue to frame while still wet. Secure edges with masking tape and rubber bands until everything is dry. Paint with concrete color textured paint.
2) Basswood as above then cover curved surface with textured construction paper to eliminate wood grain and seams. Paint concrete color.
3) Cover with thin styrene plastic sheeting. Glue sheeting to wood framework with styrene cement.
4) Plank surface with 1/4-inch wide vertical basswood strips. Sandpaper to curved contour when planking complete.

Nice McGinnis collection but McGinnis was not the only paint scheme on the New Haven Railroad. New Haven DER-1 #0722, The Cranberry, an ALCO DL-109, had a one-of-a-kind paint scheme and ran on Cape Cod during the 1950s. Model by MTH with PS2.

Harry Henning made a coaling tower out of an old plastic container. Once it was all decorated, it looks great.
I made a coaling tower and a similar item (oil tank) out of coffee cans that I wrapped in poster board that was softened with a steam iron; glued it with 3M spray adhesive held with rubber bands until dry. They've held for over 10 years now.
