What a coincidence, Saturday went to a train show in Mebane NC and picked up two cars that have been on my want list for quite a while.  The Papst car as it was once brewed in my hometown, Newark.  The Stroh's  reefer after being introduced to it during business trips to the Midwest in the 70's.  $15 and $20 respectfully.  Wonder if the coupon boxcar for $5.00 is still valid?

WRW,

My late father-in-law drank that brand of swill 😁 in 16 oz. containers.  Not me.

When I was a very little me, we would visit my grandparents in the Harrisburg, PA area. They didn’t drink beer but my Dad did. They always had Carling’s Black Label in the porch dining / sun room fridge for my Dad. They also had lots of Coca-Cola products too out there too. I still remember asking him about why he drank that kind of beer at their (and later her) home. He responded as he would with one of his Dad wisdoms. It’s free beer or something along those lines he replied. And added he was being polite. I remember and embrace that to this day, and thus I acquired this car not because I liked this beer but because of my Dad. It’s a good memory. Thanks for prompting me to share this. I’ll never turn down a free beer. Best, W

@WRW, a bit off topic, but I remember that beer from my childhood, not from drinking it but the catchy lyrics/song for their commercials, 'Mabel - Black Label'.  As I got into beer drinking age, it was nowhere to be found (Pittsburgh area).  I understood that the brewery put out several bad batches, and lost their core following.  Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

@CSXJOE, Strohs was the first beer I drank (legally).  There was a pizza joint that sold it cheap by the pitcher.  My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I would got there with another couple for a cheap night out.  The pizza was way better than the beer!

I don't have any beer reefers ............ yet!  But I like the Carling's Black Label one.  That's what I drank in college.  $1.25 for a 6-pack.  Helped me get through many a cold night in the Soo!  The father of one of my roommates was a delivery driver for Stroh's.  He had a lot of promo items like posters, cardboard cutouts, etc. that decorated our apartment. Good times!

I barfed up a beer taste at a few months old, from teetotaler heritage, but find the history of MANY vanished breweries and their railcars ( many had none) interesting, and long heard their radio ads for Kentucky beers, and others, best remembering Fehr's, Oertles '92, and Stroh's.  I researched beer cars, and could not find cars existed for several (some long defunct) Louisville breweries, including Oertle's '92. I mostly try to hold to Atlas cars from four states, but do stray.
