Broken coupler

Hey Smokie,

I have the same issue with my Santa Fe boom car (6-29813). I am thinking about potentially taking it into a hobby shop to see if they can rebuild the coupler. Otherwise, I will have to source a different powered coupler/truck to replace it with. Also, what does "W/ COLL" mean?

If anyone has any insight about what an appropriate replacement coupler would be, please let me know!

Clem, that is an option, but I'd prefer to keep the functionality if it is at all possible.

I believe it means the truck has a pick-up.

Thats true Bigboy 25 However you only need one of the couplers to open.

You could try the standard postwar knuckle, 480-8. You would also need the knuckle rivet TC-23.   These things are so cheap that the problem will be that shipping will be ten times the cost of the parts.

Can you show us the bottom of the car?  The easiest would be to replace the baseplate with the coupler already attached.  It is part number 480-25.

Looking at the coupler it does not appear to be a traditional knuckle tab.  Any ideas to finding a replacement.  It also happens to be the end to couple to the crane.    

I have a knuckle from a busted truck that is the same style and design of the truck on your boom car. Its still connected to the defective claw so you'll have to cut the rivet to get the knuckle.  I think it should fit.  If interested, its yours for the price of shipping.  Email is in my profile.
