The metal stud located on the bottom side of the narrow end tip of the rail that serves to secure the inner switch rail to the track tie has broken in half.

The small metal part does not appear to be functionally repairable (either by gluing or soldering), particularly when 12 lb. locomotives begin running over the switch again.  Does anyone have a spare inner rail with the metal stud attached, rail or know where I might be able to secure one?

I will contact Atlas if one is not available from a forum member.

Martin,

One mechanical repair I have used is to drill/tap into broken piece (your rail), attach appropriate sized fastener (I.E. #2 screw), lock in with JB Weld, epoxy, etc. of your choice.  For moving/swivel motion part, space with appropriate flat washer and lubricate after installation.  With correct selection of repair items and adhesive, it can last perhaps as well and as long as original.

You could still drill and tap the rail and replace that stud with a threaded stud or screw.  It won't be easy, but that will be the quickest and most economical.  Otherwise you will have to contact Atlas and see if they can sell you a new turnout point.  I have the same turnout, except it's the end of the point that connects to the switch motor that broke off.  I was told Atlas could sell me a new point, but since I changed my layout I never needed the turnout and didn't bother getting the replacement part.
