I have to wonder: If folks keep running a model of the GHWB funeral train (or the Warren G Harding and Lincoln funeral trains in O) don't we wind up treating these past presidents like Charley on the MTA?

It's easy to get caught up in the moment.

As I mentioned elsewhere, there was a strong kickback against the Lincoln Funeral Train model at the time, folks calling it ghoulish and morbid.  But folks seem to be gushing all over this one.  I don't get it.

There is nothing incorrect in honoring any former president, upon passing, with a wish to model his final transporting and the respect show by the citizens of our nation.  Trains, as we all know, have been the biggest and most honored form of final travel for many before the presence and shown love of those missing them, those who love them.  It is neither morbid, grotesque, or in poor taste.  It is simply another expression of wanting to remember and pay respect to final moments within the land, to the people they love and served.  IMO…..

TexasTrain, I watched almost all of the Funeral procession, and for some unexplainable reason, tears came to my eyes, and in my humble opinion, this was the very Best Ending, to a Well written story...Goodbye George H. W. Bush, you now are at Peace and at Your real Home, you will be missed by so many. Thank You for the Memories. A9B02AB5-E120-4059-AB0B-9A4791100DC569C7DD40-034A-4F39-A765-0624AAA1B155BBCBBCB9-D229-4B15-8529-5B2196879EF63EF7F8F9-D18D-4EA0-9A1D-F2172CCD5384EFB3F22C-9DBA-411C-9D6B-E371A8F49D049547001C-00FA-4CD6-BD8C-8909B2BCD65C4EDB5FEE-3176-4C24-926C-48A227737CC4

I started this thread on the S Scale Board, and I would point out that there is nothing like this produced in S Scale.

Having said that, I originally commented on the aesthetics of the train, and, to my eye it was beautiful, the colors were crisp and bright and the engines and cars were in excellent condition.

Just for jollies I looked up photos of the Harding, FDR and Lincoln funeral trains and, judging just on appearances, Mr. Bush's train was the most pleasing to look upon.

Not withstanding that 1955-1961 is the era I prefer to model, I think this train was a thing of beauty.
