Chicago show next week

God willin and the crick don't rise I'll be there. 

The Rockford O Scalers group will be attending the show and we hope to see/meet many of your there.  We will also be open as part of the March Meet layout tours .  The layout is about 1:15 west/north west of the show and we will be open Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:30 and Sunday from 12:00 to 6:00.  Please check out the facebook page "Rockford O Scalers" if you would like to see what the layout looks like.

Some of us Brits are staying a few days in the hotel.  Apart from dealing with all the bargains on Saturday, getting to Denny's up the road by 7.00am is sure to be our hardest task.

We really were set up to go.  Airline tickets and table purchased, hotel reservations made, inventory ready to ship and then everything went haywire.  Went in for what was supposed to be a simple procedure and spent the next 6 days in intensive care.  From what they tell me, the first few days were really ugly (I was unconscious and have zero recollection).

Bottom line, I'm bailing this year.  Too much work with my diminished stamina.  Okay, it ain't all doom & gloom.  I feeling better than I've felt in quite a while.  Next year, we go for sure...bet on it!

Strasburg Show  04/06/2019

I've never been to this meet before even though it's right in my own backyard! Oops!!

I typically look for newer Legacy stuff, is there usually much there?? Thanks.

They do attend, but there's very little if any 3-rail items at this meet.

there are 3 railers that attend for sure.    the show is aimed at 2-rail and is one of the few that is.    But the scenery stuff, buildings and such for the layout fit O scale regardless of 2 or 3 rail.     You just won't much, especialy 3 rail locos.    the scale cars do show up.

I will not be attending Chicago due to being in my 6th week out of 7 being treated for cancer.  I requested the show let someone else have my table this year and requested the same table for 2020.   I look forward to seeing everyone's post and the more pictures the better.

Eddie G - - do a search for "March Meet O Scale" and the website for the meet will pop up.   They even have a photo section with past years.

That is the pitfall of using the list of most recent "posts" at right. Sometimes you end up in unfamiliar territory. A scroll up to the top of the page to see where you have landed would be prudent.

oops  verdict restaurant was for last weeks Wheaton show. that's no where near Lombard

So what treasures are you returning home with?  

My two treasures were free.  I met Hot Water (Jack) and R Heil (3rd Rail) and J Dunn all at the same time.  All very nice men to discuss railroading with.  Second treasure was meeting a couple of sellers (husband and wife team) from Grove City, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus).  Brought back memories of hunting near there while visiting grandparents (who started my railroad obsession) as a kid some 60 years ago.

Also saw lots of well-priced PRR stuff, but my wallet appreciated my self control.  Great day!

Came home with an Armstrong turntable kit, and poorly painted ATSF brass side door, at a good price, which will get a repaint, decals, and three rail trucks and couplers.  Found all the stuff l drool over, but in two Rail: two truck Heisler, Little River 2-4-4-2, C&O Mikado, and more, so had to leave them. Did NOT find what l most sought...coaling tower chute and mechanism, nor my cook house kitchen stove.

A great hit in the lottery of O scale shows.

 Bob Parri NYC shallow-door hopper and PRR H21e Hopper cars and a very nicely built Z-man San Juan Car Company WP car .   And The Milwaukee Road's Electrics and The Electric Way through the Mountain at a dirt cheap price!

And a day of O scale bonding with friends, both old and new.

The show has been great but there is a bit sadness to see more and more of the regulars using canes and walkers or not showing up at all.   

By the way, there is a lady in the back corner selling her fatheer's estate, which is a very eclectic collection of both 2 and 3 rail.    I saw one guy buy an aold postwar Lionel set from her and there were also 2 rail cas and lots of parts for both 2 rail and 3 rail.  

The show has been very good so far and I got got talk to Scott Mann from Sunset 3rd rail about the new GP7/9 project and the Alco PA second run.   

All in all as someone said, it is the 2 railers York if that makes any sense!

By the way , I want to meet hot water too.

This show really STINKS! Oh wait, I'm stuck at home!

I enjoyed the show. Living in western Iowa, I don't have much contact with other 2 railers. That is why I come to these shows. Thank you my fellow 2 rail friends. Let's see if we can do Denver in 2021!!!......

During dealer set up Friday evening, a man was trying to reach his brother via cell phone.  The one who had yet to arrive was coming from Omaha with a trailer of kits.  Later that night, both unloaded and set on nine(9) tables approximately 700 kits of rolling stock.  Kits in plain white boxes with black lettering up to and including about eight PRB kits and a few Atlas boxes.  Many brass kits, a few plastic kits.  Their father died last year and they heard The March Meet was the best venue, sold about twenty percent of the items and are considering calling Stout Auctions.

I asked how they determined a price for each kit.  One replied they had some receipts (some as old as the 1950), some information via the Internet and some from a dealers.  Several sellers came by to help by gathering kit A, B and C as a possible logical progression of purchasing a group of kits.  It was like a family coming together during the time of a crisis.  A big job had to be done and people kicked in to help.

Sunday afternoon the show organizers arranged for next years sign up forms to be distributed so interested parties would know the dates.  Along with advertisements in two rail magazines it will not be necessary to make an announcement on an OGR Forum that the event starts in xx number of days.

Hnmm..well, l certainly want to see this show's next dates noted in OGR!!  Just down the road  in Wheaton, little of O scale structure kits or details, or even the O scale rolling stock kits, many of which originated in the Chicago area, were offered in the many shows there l once attended.

What?????  The March Meet in Lombard is a once a year event, and the largest in the U.S.A.. That farce in Wheaton is once a month, and the same guys are there with the same OVER PRICED 3-Rail stuff, month after month, year after year. You are trying to compare apples to water melons! 

Apparently, again, my comment was misinterpreted.  Another comment, and l may have misinterpreted it, read as though there was no need to post Lombard dates in OGR, which made the show sound cliquish. Promoters, and l bet OGR, would not like that.  Nobody thinks Wheaton compares...just wish more O scale showed up there rather than once a year, now, Lombard, or Indy, and not enough, but more often, at Strasburg.  When looking for stuff you can use, and you are right about much of Wheaton, but a lot of other shows, too, but even if you aren't up to your knees in icy water, you have to pan a lot of sand to find the gold. (That means wade through a lot of shows)

The March Meet could be announced in OGR.    That might be good if they support announcements.    I don't know.    It is announced in "O Scale Trains" magazine, as is the Indy meet and other 2 rail meets.   I think both actually take out Half page ads.    They are also announced in the "O Scale Resource" which is a completely electronic magazine available on line - for no charge.    The Strasburg meets are also announced along with the Meet in Cleveland in November.    

The problem seems to be that some readers look at only one source for information rather than what is available to O scale.
