During the St. Louis TCA convention I ran across this line of new tin plate trains.  I think they are really quite lovely cars.  The line so far seems to consist of these and some 0-6-0 European prototype steam locomotives.  According to the literature, it appears they also are proposing to reproduce Dorfan product under license.  Anyone else know anything about this?

I couldn't pass up this little gem of a wagon while wandering the trading pits of St. Louis:

Jonathan, I'm the Australian distributor of Darstaed, we make a large range of tin plate British prototypes, plus some European and Australian outline as well. We have revived the Dorfan name and plan to make a range of O gauge tinplate in the style of the original Dorfan broad gauge products. These will be made in the US, by my colleague John Hoover and his company in Orlando Florida.

Dave - I guess I should have done my research.  After checking out the website I did see you are the Australian distributor.  You probably know the answer to this.  What are the chances of getting a custom run of the car I posted if I were to provide the graphics?  Desert Division TCA is looking to run a fundraiser car and this is the prototype.  Who would be the best contact?

It should be remembered that the name "Darstaed" is simply the reuse of a distinguished name by its current owner although, unlike say "American Flyer [ by Lionel ]", the current production has nothing in common with that of the predecessor company.

The original Darstaed line was founded circa 1966 by Marcel Darphin of Switzerland, where the items were produced.  In addition to a less known 'Scale' line primarily of Swiss and French prototypes, he produced excellent reproductions of the classic Maerklin "1941 series" 0 gauge coaching stock;  further, he then produced models in the "1941 style" that Maerklin never made, most of which have become classics in their own right.   The current company originally announced its intention to continue production of this type of car, but with each passing year that prospect has faded farther and farther from "the front burner".

So when you write just "Darstead" in the title you get the pulse rate of some of your readers elevated......

Best regards, SZ
