DZ-2001A questions

Remove the nuts from the DZ-2001A. Turn them around and attach the DZ2001A to the base.

At the machine to program, start with a red LED. Then press and hold the control button until the both lights flash back and forth rapidly. The machine is now in program mode. With the CAB-2 use the soft key SW, the enter the number that you want the switch to be. Then press "SET". The lights on the machine will stop flashing, and the green one will blink to tell you that you have a successful programming.

I tried to program a few switches today. The 2500 is ready to program. The lights are alternating rapidly. I hit SW on the cab2, enter the number, hit SET and nothing happens. The lights on the 2500 just keep flashing. I have the 2001 connected to the legacy base and powered to 14 volts. The data wire is also connected. I tried 4 switch machines and same result. I checked one 2500 and it has the gold circle on the back. I read that is a thing to check. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

the gold circle indicates a newer mechanical version.

it should have printed on the back  "DZ-2500C" and have a blue stick-on dot indicating a latest program version.

I THOUGHT that all of the DZ-2500Cs  should be the same version;

although some have indicated that older versions can be programmed with the newer ones.

make sure all power sources are phased.

If my memory is correct, there is a LED on the DZ2001 that will blink when you send information to the DZ2500s, so verify this blinks when you do the set address command.

Second, the DZ2001 must have a common ground with the DZ2500s. I powered the DZ2001 and DZ2500s from the same transformer, so this has a common ground. If you are using two different transformers, you need to have a common ground between the two transformers.

I think the DZ-2001A is TMCC only.  The DZ-2500L  DZ-2001L is the Legacy flavor.  Check the Z-Stuff website.

The Z-2500C is a switch machine.  I never heard of a DZ-2500L

I use the DZ-2001A with the SER2 box on my Legacy layout.

Use a short cable to mate the DZ-2001A to the base connection, if you remove the screws, the tin shield falls off!

I only see the DZ-2001A on the z stuff website. It says to connect to the TMCC base. Should this work with Legacy without the SER2? Because I’m not using SER2.

my transformers are phases and they share a ground. The 2500’s and 2001 are powered by same transformer. The light on the 2001 flashes when I hit SW, enter the number, and hit SET.  

DZ-2001L Data Wire

DZ is not into much description on the website,  so I'm guessing that the "L" means Legacy Flavor??

EXCEPT the limited description says that it "plugs into any TMCC Command Base serial port. . ."

• The DZ-2001L plugs into any TMCC Command Base serial port and creates a data wire that can then control multiple DZ-2500 switch machines.
• The DZ-2001L prevents the TMCC control signal applied to the train tracks from being shorted out even when non-derailing connections are used to control the DZ-2500 Switch machine.

Thanks!  That seems likely since I can’t get the A version to work.  I bought it from Ross so I’ll call Steve and see if he knows.

If I recall correctly, the problem was that the original DZ-2001 drew more current than the Legacy base was happy to supply through the serial port.

Removing the LED from the DZ-2001 may solve that problem, so if you can't exchange the one you have, try that fix before discarding it.

They're apparently down right now, they might have a local server that's not attended on the weekend.  See if they come back Monday.

I just noticed the package says DZ2001L.  I didn’t realize there was an A and L version when I made this post. So it sounds like I do have the right one. Any idea what I’m doing wrong or things to check?

I talked to Dennis today. He said there is supposed to be a resistor soldered to the back of the board. I sent it to him and he will add the resistor and test it, then send it back to me.  Thanks for everyone’s help on this!

So it was the A version and not the L?

I needed the L version (which I did have) but it also needs a resistor added to the back.
