I am looking for Erie diesel decals to be used primarily on SW's, VO-1000's, AS 616's and S2's.  Have looked everywhere for such.  Microscale only has them for HO.  Ebay is hit or miss, mostly miss.  Any help will be appreciated.

I have also asked about this topic in the wanted section of the Forum, but figured the 2-Rail SCALE group would also be a great resource.

Wow!  From no options to endless solutions.  Thank you to all who gave me direction for solving my problem.

Jim, pointing me to the Allegheny Scale Models website is probably the route I'm going to take at this point in time.

Jonathan, Highball Graphics is another great option should I ever need decals produced.  I will surely notify you if that becomes the case.

Again, thank you to all for your help in my quest to locate Erie decals.

Jim,

Contacted Allegheny Scale Models.  Emailed back and forth with Jack McGarry.  Turns out he had two sets of the BRO-104 sets left.  I purchased both of them.  I thought Champ decals was out of business and he confirmed that also saying there hasn't been any buyers for the business.  That is a shame as I thought Champ had some of the best decals out there for railroad modelers.

I did ask Jack if he would be able to locate any additional decal sets.  He says he buys them from several sources but there could be a dry spell.  What I purchased from him should take care of my needs for a while.

Thanks again for the lead Jim.

Jim,

If the need arises, I surely will contact you.  Thank you for the offer.

One last question, is there a specific black and yellow paint color you use?  I was going to use flat black and yellow decal striping. What do you use to strip paint on the plastic shells?  I used to use brake fluid with the older plastics, but the newer ones are different.  Brake fluid softens them.  Don't ask me how I found this out. Your feedback is appreciated.

First engine is an Atlas SW-9.  Then a MTH AS-616, S-2 and VO-1000.

My experiences with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol:

I'm in the process of painting up 4 E8s in Erie.  After some experimentation I think the Tamiya #AS-29 Camel Yellow painted over Tamiya light gray primer seems to match Champ's Dulux gold on the decals.

I haven't started actual paint yet but plan to next weekend.  I would welcome any corrections before I go too far down that road..

I read that particular thread you initiated.  I saw where someone used Pine Sol and it seemed to work well for them.  I might try the Pine Sol method.  Your shells came very clean with the alcohol.  I am assuming you will paint the E8's Erie Green.

I will check out the Tamiya Camel Yellow at my LHS this weekend.  I think flat black or something close to it will work for the black.  Comments are welcome on the color choices.

I'm have a small dilemma choosing which green to use.  Tamiya TS-2 dark green is a bit too light.  AS-21 a bit too blue, although it seems to match up pretty well with the recent repaint of Erie 833 which also looks too blue for my memory.  I'm going to stick with the same brand of paint for all colors on the locomotive so that I don't run into compatibility problems.   I'll probably go with TS-2 as these locos will not be fresh from the shop and should look a bit faded.

For the purists:  I don't feel like firing up the airbrush so I won't be mixing the (so called) correct colors.

Jim,

Just now had time to get back to the thread and see what was going on.  I looked at the colors you are contemplating on using and I agree that the AS-21 is too blue.  I haven't see a color chip for the original Erie green, but I have a couple of MTH Erie E8 shells and they appear, at least to me, to be closer to the TS-91 green.  Of course manufacturers do not always get it right.  I have a set of Williams PA's (converted to two rail) he came out many years ago in the two tone green and to me they looked green gray in color.  Didn't look good at all.  I must say though that is was nice to see a manufacturer come out with the green PA's.

What color will you be selecting for the light cream green?  That is a hard color to match.

Would enjoy seeing pictures as the E8 project progresses.

Erie Bob - I bought a spray can of Model Master #1993 SAC bomber green.  It is a touch on the gray side but I think it yields the correct amount contrast to the TS2 dark green.  I think both colors are lighter than "new" Erie green paint but I'm going for a 3-4 year old paint.  Green fades quite a bit in the sun.  Probably almost as much as red or blue so I think I can get away with it.

Here is a comparison between factory painted Weaver cars and my repaints.

High Resolution Version

Here is a comparison the factory painted PA1 (Key Imports) that you were talking about earlier.  As you can see the Key Model is halfway between the Weaver (corner of car in foreground) and the Tamiya Dark Green (coupled to the PA).  As it turns out I'm not really happy with the paint job on the Key PAs so I'm thinking of repainting them in the black freight scheme:

Bob Anson - Yes I have looked a Trucolor but I wanted to do these cars with gloss out of a spray can because I'm too lazy to fire up the airbrush.  This is really an experiment in painting to see how well spray cans work.

Jim,

I see your point about the green looking sun faded.  I like that look.  Quite a contrast between the Weaver cars and your makeovers.

Also, I checked out the paint chip for the Model Master SAC bomber green and the paint chip to me looks more gray than green, but up against what I assume is the Tamiya TS-2 it looks green.  I am assuming you painted your yellow stripes.  What color did you use for the stripping?

I have attached a photo of my Erie E8's and the clolor is a lot darker than I remembered.
