I plan to do a few tmcc conversions. What tether options are available and who to purchase them from?

I have seen mention of MTH 9 pin, is that item only available from MTH? I may buy a few for future projects. I would like to have all the items ready for the conversions so I can finish in a weekend.

Thanks

The MTH tethers are considerably neater than most options.  They come in straight, 90 degree, and there are matching male sockets available for the locomotive side.

10 pin flat, PS2    BC-2100033    B unit to Lead A unit, ref. F-3 20-2307-1
10 pin flat, PS2    BC-2100035    Trailing A to B unit, ref. F-3 20-2307-1
10 pin flat, PS2, universal    BC-2000000    B-unit to Lead A unit
10 pin flat, PS2 (B unit pass thru)    BC-2100070    B-unit pass thru harness

Could you please post pictures of said harnesses and sockets (Part # for sockets too.)?

Does this part number have wires connected to it? The part number for the ten pin connector soldered to a PC board but without wires is AG-0000039

When I called Midge a few months ago about these she offered a few part numbers. I haven't confirmed this by checking my kits bit I think she said steam and diesel use different color wires for each terminal and that there was a third option without wires attached but just the right angle connector soldered to the PC board. I ordered the one without wires.

I should have my order in a few days, and I'll know what the part number I posted was.

Diesel and steam do have different wire colors and pin assignments, for reasons that I'll never fully understand.  However, as long as you ring them out, the colors are somewhat moot when you're using them for TMCC upgrades.

The interesting thing about AG-0000039 vs. AG-0000066 is that they are both MSRP $8, seems odd that one would come with wires and one without.

Here's what I find for the two:

First, from the 4-4-0 General parts listing.

7.) PCboard(green) AG-0000066 8.00 (w/blackfemale10pinplug) ( notchedcornersonrearofboard)

Next, from the RK S-2 Turbine 6-8-6

27.) PC board (10 pin)( female ) AG-0000039 8.00

Sounds like the one I specified may have some notches to make it fit into the General.  When I upgraded a General, I had to trim the board to make it fit, so that makes sense.

When doing this the AG-39 doesn't have the diodes under the PCB that MTH uses to make Positive DC Voltage.  IF this is for a TMCC conversion you don't really want those diodes unless you have a need for PV and understand how MTH engines generate it.

There are plenty of alternate numbers too, but the AG-39 is unwired which allows for your custom wiring in support of TMCC.

For MTH harness the yellow and white and the red and black are the heavier gauge wires you need to use for AC power and Motor control.  So wire accordingly.   G

John, I created a list as I did repairs and have my own modified MTH parts list that they have sent out.  Plus I have spend a lot of time digging through the older 5V parts list to get numbers.  I also used the parts numbers from the upgrade instructions.  I think the list MTH sent out had the AG-39.   G

Do either of you guys know what brand connector MTH uses for their 10pin tether? I have tried two brands of 10 pin right angle 2mm pitch connectors and while close....no cigar.

The keying is slightly off. I picked up some 2mm pitch Vector board and would prefer to make my own. They differ slightly in the keying and while one is easlly modified to work the correct one would be preferred.
