Gold Edition Lionel 1225 Berkshire

No gold engines or cars for me. I just don't see the reason for it but if you like it then buy it.

No interest here either, I won't be getting one.

I was thinking I might buy one and repaint it in flat black/Union Pacific.

I think Lee is so skilled, he could do any paint job he wanted and if he did not like it, no one will ever know. He does GREAT work.

I do think though that just because it isn't high on *MY* list doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of people out there that might enjoy one.  If it makes you happy, buy one.  If you hate it, why ruin it for other people?  One of the things I like about this hobby is when I see someone get excited about something they really like.  Christmas can be any and every day of the year.

I'm not going for one, but I do think it will sell well and be a very nice collectible.

Obviously with only 200 being produced, this is a niche product, and certainly not for everyone. I was just curious to know if anyone on the Forum had an interest in securing a Gold PE Berkshire. I agree that Lionel will have no problem in finding a home for the 200 they intend to produce. It certainly will be a conversation piece.

I think it is just plain ugly......so, um...no plans to purchase.

I find the entire concept of a gold-plated toy train bizarre, but then lots of things seem that way anymore, including about everything on TV.  That said, a collection of all the gold-plated locos and such made since whenever/whoever started gold-plating locos would be interesting to see - but I would not want to own such a collection. 

 

But if I won one of these in a contest, I'd be so proud I'd probably have it bronzed!

Not to mention the Polar Express craze ended over five years ago.

IMO, The idea is just plain expensive and silly.

There is still a great deal of demand for Polar Express stuff.  If there weren't, they wouldn't be doing an AF version.  Though I would like to see some new scale cars...

The current Scale PM Berk and Scale PE Passenger Cars go for well over MSRP even today.  I do not think it has left the station yet.  

I enjoy both my scale one and my O36 one.  I may even scare up the funds for the AF version when it comes out.  I have also seen some awesome efforts at scratchbuilding P.E. stuff on this forum.  I'm not the only person here who still enjoys the Polar Express.  I'm sorry that you no longer hear the bell. 

If I bought this set I would send it to Lee to get painted!

Me thinks that those who believe that the interest in PE products for those who are over the age of six has "left the station" should take a healthy dose of "get real" pills. These delusional thoughts will then pass.  

I am sure I will be chastised by the OGR group but I think the gold edition is kind of nice in an odd way. I have never liked gold edition anything previously.  I didn't like it when I first saw it but it's growing on me.  I am sure they will charge a big premium.  Since we found out about my sons cancer right before thanksgiving last year I have lost all christmas spirit and my zest for life in general. Oh yes I will be buying a PE sometime soon. Hopefully it will rekindle some spirit that is been stolen from our family. Maybe I should give the Gold edition to him. Giving always makes one feel better than receiving. Now that I think of it I may just purchase both. Scale and a Gold edition for him.

Our prayers will go out to your son for a speedy and full recovery. That's what is really important. Many of us have been affected one way or another in our lives by cancer and we know first hand what you are going through. Keep your spirits up, that is very important for you and your son right now.

No matter what you do or don't do, there will always be someone there to tell you you're wrong.  I wouldn't worry about it.  Life is too short.  Spend as much time with your son as you can and get the things that you like.  Whatever you end up with it will be your time together that will mean the most.
