Remove the front truck.  Under it, there is a Phillips-head screw that goes up between the cylinders and into the bottom of the boiler. Remove that screw.  It is pretty long.

Hold the boiler down onto the frame and roll the engine onto the wheels.

Remove the two little screws on the rear of the cab, next to the plug receptacle.

The boiler can now be lifted off.  Sometimes the ash pan/motor clearance is tight, but it will come off.  There is a plug connecting the headlight and smoke unit to the frame.  Unplug this as the boiler comes off.

Every brass steam locomotive, regardless of manufacturer (Weaver, Williams, 3rd Rail, US Hobbies, etc. comes apart the same way.

New grease and oil still grinding noise!! It is the alignment of the drive train! I slightly lift the back of the motor and it sounds good. How to fix? Picture shows a bracket which I am thinking about putting a washer under to raise motor. Thoughts on fix? Don

FWIW, I bought, years ago, a Weaver Century Dreyfuss Hudson. I finally got around to ERR-ing it 5 - 6 years go and during testing it was very noisy. Grinding? More a growl in my case, but definitely nicht so gut. I checked it on the bench and discovered that if I lifted he motor while running, it got better. So I shimmed it.

The growl, in my case, was the ball/socket joint having a too-acute angle. Sometimes, though, the motor itself is just noisy.
