I have a Harry Potter Lion Chief engine that is not responding to the remote.
Background information:
The unit has been operating via a universal remote prior to this, with no issues, for the last 6 month. (original remote was lost) I replaced the batteries in the remote with new alkaline batteries prior to troubleshooting.
I put the engine on the test track and I saw a puff of smoke emitted from the front bottom of the engine and immediately shut it down. As I removed the shell, I noticed the smoke unit was in the "ON" position. (This engine is not normally ran with the smoke unit. The smoke unit has never been filled with fluid and I do not know how long it has been selected) With the shell removed, I visually examined the engine and found no concerning issues.
I placed the engine back on the test track and applied voltage, headlight came on, then I turned "ON" the remote, tried the bell and whistle with no response, turned the remote to reverse and the engine took off (high balled) and was unresponsive to the remote. Cycled the power, the engine stopped and I tried again. This time I selected the forward direction and the engine did not respond. The red light on the remote blinked. I still did not have any sounds.
Where do I go from here? Any and all troubleshooting help is appreciated before I box it off and send it in for repairs if it is worth repairing?
