HOW ABOUT BUILDING A DUAL GAUGE (O AND S) GAUGE POLAR EXPRESS CHRISTMAS LAYOUT? IDEAS WELCOME

Now that we we are receiving our S Gauge FlyerChief Polar Express sets from Lionel, the thought occurred that it would be neat to run both the O and S Gauge PE versions on the same Christmas layout. The O Gauge Polar Express sets offered for the last couple of years use the LionChief radio control technology, and so does the the S gauge FlyerChief Polar Express set under the FlyerChief brand name. This opens up happy possibilities for smplified fun for a holiday layout.

What would make a layout like this even better would be controlling the dual gauge Polar Express layout with the new Lionel Universal Remote when it arrives. Even using the two separate controllers to operate the the O and S gauge PE sets is pretty easy.

In the meantime, I would appreciate any ideas you have about the design of the dual gauge Polar Express layout. This should be fun.

The first thought that came to my mind was for a dual layer "forced perspective" layout.  One could design the home town in the fore ground with the O-scale set with houses, people, streets, etc. trending toward the beginning or ending of the movie.  The background or maybe "higher" elevation could be the "S" scale and could be either the north pole (lights, Santa, Tree, etc) or the Mountain where the PE climbs up in a circular motion.  The complete circuit of each layout could be partially hidden under or behind to create a visual "forced" perspective of just one train.

not my intention to hijack this thread and possibly I should start a new thread, but does anyone know of a simple way to rescale/convert the dimensions of the Henning's "O-gauge Fastrack in the Christmas tree PE display" built last year (his how to do it article soon to be published in an upcoming OGR article) into S-gauge Fastrack? By using S-gauge the tree would be smaller and likely fit in a house with standard 8 foot tall ceilings whereas his O-gauge one won't. Any ideas on coverting O-gauge Fastrack dimensions to S-gauge Fastrack?

Plenty of new ideas needed! A dual gauge layout with LionChief tech begs for both recycled ideas and new approaches, so let's hear them.

The O Gauge Christmas layout in a Christmas tree is the lead article in the December issue of OGR  and adopting its methodology for S is a great idea!  Folks need to see the complete article so they can weigh in on this in detail.  Good one.

That's the extent of it - no curves, crossovers, or switches available - just the 37" straight section pictured below.

Hi Ed - Does  GarGraves Track or any of the track manufactures have a duel purpose track, 3 Rail and two rail "S" Gauge, in the same track sections and the switches?
