Hi Guys - bought another Lionel ITAD at the Greenberg show this weekend - after wiring it up with some gates it started to smoke/smell - quickly turned off power.
Question: are they repairable or should I add it to the scrap heap?

Quick answer: NO. Most of the electronics in these Itads are surface mount(very small parts). What concerns me is that it burned up-- normally these don't do that--- did you wire it up correctly?
I wired it up correctly - I have several on my layout & had no problems.

You can take a look at the following thread where I tried to guide another OGR reader thru troubleshooting a failed unit. We didn't get very far.

But if you're going to send it to the scrap heap, I'll pay postage to send it to me as I'd like to study it and hopefully provide more info for the next person brave enough to dive into the guts of the beast.
