Lash-up anomalies

Wondering why anomalies occur when two MTH engines are put into lash-up state such as smoke automatically activated when previous run had smoke off or number boards out when they were on before lash-up, and features not able to be addressed in remote that are there with individual engines. Anyone notice this in their experience.

Specifically two MTH SF GP38-2 s back to back; two SF U25B s back to back. Bothsets PS2.
