Even though you switched to Mac, there is software out there that let's you run Windows software products on the Mac.  One of those is called Parallels, I believe.  If some friend of yours still has a Windows PC, at least take a look at the "free" versions of other track-planning software before you plunge into Mac only.

RailModellerPro is what I use on my MAC.  I have it for about 8 months and just finished designing a 11' x 22' HO layout.  It is not as intuitive as RR-Track ,which I used when I had a PC, but IMHO RailModellerPro is worth every penny.

I think you'll find they're all capable of getting you a design, so it's just a matter of how much effort you want to put into learning, etc. I started with XTrackCAD and thought it was great before I found RR-Track. Then that became my go-to until I learned SCARM. I've played with AnyRail, but already had too much invested in RR-Track and SCARM to buy yet another package. I would have tried Railmodeller Pro too if I had access to a Mac. And if there was something for iOS or Android I'd give those a try too. I don't know how much trouble, it any, it is to use a Windows emulator, but unless you're already used to something for Windows, I'd be prone to just go with Railmodeller Pro. It's only $40, not much when you consider what a layout is going to cost. They all work differently, so intuitiveness is mostly a matter of what you're used to and what you expect based on other software you use. Check out some of the tutorial videos along with the trial version.
