It appears all the footage except the intro from the anchors is old. Lazy journalism. Won't say I'm disappointed because it really has become the norm. The story should have been more based on the convention with Lionel being a part of the story.
T first I thought Mr Reagan was back at Lionel but since he hadn't aged a day since his last instructional video, I guess not. This news story had such potential but as my dear godmother used to say; what are ya gonna do?
Journalism is dead.
This poorly produced "story" is ample evidence of that.

I've had the opportunity to do just that at length a few years ago. They are indeed fascinating along with some other microfilm which was in the archives. For me the most interesting notes are the change orders that are in the lower right corner of many of the blue prints. It gives us some insight of when and why changes were made to some of the tooling.

The archives as seen in that video no longer exist in that form. I was part of a team selected to help find new caretakers for the archives back in 2017, so that gives you an idea just how old that footage is. So no, the archives are not open to the public. That being said, I know many of the people who are the caretakers for many of the historic items and they truly are in safe hands. I've heard through the rumor mill that some of the information that was uncovered during that process may eventually find its' way into a book. Time will tell...
